Grenoside Reading Room

Telling the story of Grenoside’s Reading Room and industrial life in a panel and school art sessions.

inHeritage worked with the Reading Room Trustees, Grenoside Local History Society and Yewlands Technology College to discover and tell Grenoside’s industrial past.
We produced a single panel on the history and ambitions of the Reading Room and its links with local industrialists. We developed the concept, liaised with the local history group, wrote the text, designed the panel and managed production. The panel also signposts local industrial sites people can visit in and around Grenoside.  A QR code links to the Reading Room website where you can find out more about the building and its history.
inHeritage worked with pupils from Yewlands Technology College to explore the industrial heritage of Grenoside. We organised a visit to a historic local industrial site and led a follow-on art workshop in which the students created a manga-style anthology of industrial life in 19th century Grenoside. As one student said, ‘I never even knew it was here, and I live here!’
