Projects | Romans on the Don
inHeritage set-up and managed the English Heritage Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund Romans on the Don project in partnership South Yorkshire Archaeology Service.
Romans on the Don tells the story of life in the Doncaster area before and after the Romans arrived as discovered by archaeologists working at aggregates quarries. A booklet, website and children's comic have been produced in tandem with educational visits and community outreach. The project was launched at the South Yorkshire Archaeology Day in November 2005 and conclued successfully in February 2007.
The project was a great success with feedback from teachers, members of the community and children all highly positive. Romans on the Don has been heralded as a blueprint for other outreach and education project by the English Heritage ALSF project officer.
