Projects | Discovering the Ancient Don Gorge

MyFind postcard Don Gorge graphic novel cover don gorge comic sample

In January 2007 inHeritage was invited by the Don Gorge Strategic Partnership to produce a project design to apply for funding from the English Heritage managed Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.

The proposal was for a multi-strand heritage interpretation and education project based on archaeological finds discovered in the Don Gorge region of Doncaster in advance of aggregates quarrying. The target audience comprised the local community of the Don Gorge, local heritage groups, 7-11 year olds and 12-14 year olds. The project design was successful in securing funding and inHeritage was closely involved in delivering the project in partnership with Doncaster Museum and South Yorkshire Archaeology Service. The project ran from August 2007 to March 2008.

inHeritage was responsible for delivering an archaeological report on finds in the Museum collection, a series of community talks, an interactive website - www.yourfind.org.uk, a comic for 7-11 year olds, a manga style graphic novel for 12-14 year olds, object photography and a series of MyFind postcards.

The project was a great success with the graphic novel being highlighted by English Heritage as an example of best practice in innovative heritage interpretation.
